Blue Hill at Stone Barns

We hopped in a zip car and headed 30 minutes north of the city and ended up in the country at Blue Hill at Stone Barns in Pocantico Hills, NY. The main structure looks like an old French farm house, but the the interior is clean and modern. The pastoral setting is idyllic: flowers were in bloom, birds chirping and the sheep were grazing. If you’re a city slicker who wants an escape from city life, you can drive up here for the day and go for hikes on the property and learn about the farming and animals. After you’ve spent the day roaming the property, you can have a farmer’s feast (a Michelin rated one).

A shorn sheep —poor little bugger. The day we went was sheep shearing day.

An amuse-bouche of farm fresh veggies
Amuse-bouche #2: Lamb Shank (Osso Buco) with caviar on the the marrow. The buttery flavor of the marrow and the saltiness of the caviar was an unexpected paring that worked.
Blue Hill offers a four, six and eight course meal. I’d stick with six, eight is too much food. By the time desert rolled around, we actually had to pass!
Update: Since we went about a month ago baby lambs were born. I wanted to snatch one up and wrap it in a blanket!
