Silverlake
On my trip to the west coast I got to check out all the neighborhoods of LA. In Silverlake (after waiting 10 min for a pretty good cup of coffee (actually soy chai) at a hipster-magnet called Intelligentsia), I came across this lovely cheese shop. I wanted to get a cheese similar to a Manchego (a soft cheese) and the girl behind the counter suggested Zamorano (which is raw sheep’s milk from Spain). The girls at the store were trying to pick the best cheeses of 2009 for the LA Times and Zamorano was their final pick. I sampled a few and said that it was a winner. Next time you want to try something new other than the familiar (like Gruyere and Manchego), go for Zamorano. You won’t be disappointed.
